Continuing Our Reforestation Efforts in Southwestern Uganda
We are excited to share that our ongoing reforestation project in southwestern Uganda, led by Joseph Atwongyeire, is gearing up for another planting season. For the past three years, Joseph and his team have been dedicated to restoring the region’s ecosystem by planting trees during the rainy seasons in spring and fall.
Due to financial constraints, 23,500 seedlings from the last rainy season couldn’t be planted and began to show signs of stress. Now, with renewed support, these seedlings will finally make it into the ground. Additionally, Joseph has cultivated 40,000 new seedlings for this season, and while we hope for the best, we expect that only a portion of these will be planted due to current limitations.
This weekend, Joseph will be attending the funeral of his father-in-law, a respected and well-loved leader and reverend in a neighboring community. The service is expected to gather 300-500 guests, and Joseph will be joined by his wife and their three young children during this difficult time. Our thoughts and condolences are with Joseph and his family.
Despite these challenges, the ongoing effort is not just about planting trees—it’s about ensuring the long-term health of the environment and supporting local communities through sustainable reforestation. Right now, we are focused on getting our three pilot projects in Africa started, even if it’s in small ways. Every tree planted represents hope for a more resilient and greener future.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being part of our journey!
